Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Refugee Liaison Support officer to join our team in Dubbo. This critical role involves acting as a key point of contact and support for refugees and asylum seekers, helping them navigate public services and integrate into the local community. You will work closely with individuals and families, government agencies, and community organizations to facilitate access to housing, education, employment, healthcare, and social support. Your work will directly contribute to building a welcoming and supportive environment for new arrivals, ensuring their successful settlement and participation in regional NSW.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and advocacy for refugees and asylum seekers, addressing their immediate and long-term needs.
- Liaise with various government departments, NGOs, and community groups to coordinate services and referrals.
- Assist clients with applications for housing, education, healthcare, and financial assistance programs.
- Conduct intake assessments to identify client needs and develop tailored support plans.
- Organize and facilitate information sessions and workshops on topics relevant to refugee settlement.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records and prepare reports as required.
- Identify and address barriers to integration, working creatively to find solutions.
- Participate in community outreach activities to build trust and awareness.
- Provide cultural competency training and advice to service providers when necessary.
Required Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
- Strong empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Understanding of the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Development, International Relations, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with vulnerable populations or in the public sector.
- Fluency in a second language relevant to refugee communities in Australia (e.g., Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Farsi, Swahili).
- Knowledge of the Australian immigration and social welfare systems.
