Job Description

GraceKennedy is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Remote Building Permit Processor to support local government operations from a fully remote setup. This pivotal role involves managing the end-to-end processing of building permit applications, ensuring strict compliance with local regulations, and facilitating efficient communication between applicants and various government agencies. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a steadfast commitment to public service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process building permit applications for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to established guidelines.
  • Verify compliance of applications with local zoning ordinances, building codes, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with applicants via email and phone to request additional information, clarify submission details, and provide status updates.
  • Coordinate seamlessly with various government departments (e.g., planning, engineering, public works) to facilitate application review and secure necessary approvals.
  • Maintain accurate and organized digital records of all permit applications, statuses, communications, and final decisions.
  • Prepare and issue approved permits, ensuring all conditions, stipulations, and requirements are clearly documented.
  • Provide excellent customer service and technical assistance regarding permit requirements, application processes, and general inquiries.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of permit processing workflows, documentation standards, and digital tools.
  • Generate reports on permit application volumes, processing times, and common issues to identify areas for efficiency gains.

  • At least 2 years of professional experience specifically in permit processing, regulatory compliance, or a similar administrative role within local government.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican building codes, planning regulations, and environmental guidelines.
