Job Description

As a Reservoir Engineer at bp, you will play a crucial role in maximizing hydrocarbon recovery and optimizing reservoir performance for our North Sea assets. This involves conducting detailed reservoir simulation studies, analyzing production data, forecasting future performance, and identifying opportunities for field development and well interventions. You will work closely with geoscientists, production engineers, and economists to develop integrated solutions and support strategic decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to bp’s energy transition goals while working on mature fields and exploring new technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed reservoir simulation studies using industry-standard software.
  • Analyze production data, pressure transients, and well logs to understand reservoir behavior and identify production optimization opportunities.
  • Develop and update static and dynamic reservoir models for existing and new fields.
  • Forecast oil and gas production and reserves in compliance with internal and external guidelines.
  • Identify and evaluate infill drilling opportunities, well workovers, and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams including geologists, geophysicists, and production engineers to optimize field development plans.
  • Prepare clear and concise technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in reservoir engineering principles and practices within the oil and gas industry.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard reservoir simulation software (e.g., ECLIPSE, CMG, Petrel RE).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, capable of collaborating effectively in a diverse environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of classical reservoir engineering techniques, including material balance, decline curve analysis, and fluid properties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Experience with unconventional reservoirs or advanced EOR projects.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R) for reservoir data interpretation and automation.
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive annual salary and performance-based bonus scheme.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Generous company-matched pension contributions.
  • Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning through training programs and conferences.
