Job Description
Join our dedicated Environmental Services team as a Road Sweeper Driver and play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of Cardiff’s streets and public spaces. We are looking for a reliable and skilled driver to operate our state-of-the-art road sweeping vehicles, ensuring effective debris removal and upholding high standards of urban hygiene. This is an essential position requiring attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a proactive approach to keeping our city spotless.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate road sweeping vehicles safely and efficiently across designated routes within Cardiff.
- Perform daily pre-operation checks on vehicles and equipment, reporting any faults or maintenance needs.
- Ensure all sweeping operations comply with health and safety regulations and council policies.
- Empty vehicle hoppers and dispose of collected waste at designated facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of routes completed, work performed, and any incidents encountered.
- Communicate effectively with team leaders and other colleagues regarding operational progress or issues.
- Undertake minor routine maintenance or cleaning of the vehicle as required.
Required Skills
- Valid UK LGV/HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving license.
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
- A clean driving record with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Proven ability to operate large commercial vehicles safely and skillfully.
- Strong understanding of road safety regulations and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating road sweeping vehicles or similar municipal machinery.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and routine maintenance checks.
- Familiarity with the geography of Cardiff and surrounding areas.
