Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Ruby on Rails Developer to join our dynamic engineering team in Raleigh, NC. This is a unique opportunity for skilled individuals globally, as visa sponsorship is available for qualified candidates. You will be instrumental in developing, maintaining, and enhancing web applications that support Red Hat’s critical business operations and open source initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Ruby on Rails framework, a commitment to best practices, and a desire to contribute to a collaborative, open-source-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy robust and scalable web applications using Ruby on Rails.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient Ruby code following established best practices.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, and other engineers to define, design, and ship new features.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain high quality and share knowledge.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing applications.
- Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle, from concept to deployment.
- Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks to ensure application reliability.
- Document technical specifications and application functionality.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Ruby and the Ruby on Rails framework
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Proficiency with version control tools, especially Git
- Strong understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Experience with RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services
- Familiarity with test-driven development (TDD) principles
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular)
- Active contributions to open source projects
