GFL Environmental Inc. is actively seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as Sanitation Truck Driver Trainees in Hamilton, Ontario. Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and successfully complete all components of the paid CDL/HGV licensing and training program.
  • Learn and strictly adhere to all GFL safety protocols, company policies, and provincial transportation regulations.
  • Under direct supervision and as permitted by training progression, operate various types of sanitation vehicles safely and efficiently on assigned routes.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, identifying and promptly reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist in the manual collection of waste and recycling materials from designated residential and commercial locations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including the assigned vehicle and work area.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with fellow team members, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Accurately complete all required daily paperwork, logs, and documentation.
  • Commit to continuous learning and professional development within the waste management sector.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class G driver's license (or equivalent Canadian provincial license) with a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Physical capability to lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 lbs, and to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, climbing, and repetitive motions over extended periods.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all established safety procedures and regulations.
  • Possess a robust work ethic, reliability, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, year-round.
  • Eagerness to learn new skills, adapt to training, and commit to a long-term career.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening as per company policy and regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in any physically demanding role or outdoor work environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or familiarity with vehicle operation.
  • Previous experience in a customer service-oriented role.
  • Familiarity with the geographic area of Hamilton, Ontario, and surrounding communities.
