Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Science Teacher to join our dynamic team at Canterbury Academy Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality science lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, inspiring students to develop a deep understanding and appreciation for scientific principles. You will play a crucial role in shaping young minds, encouraging curiosity, and preparing students for future academic and professional success in the sciences. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging science lessons across the curriculum to students of varying abilities.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on the progress and attainment of students, providing constructive feedback.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and critical thinking.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the science curriculum, ensuring it is current and engaging.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional development opportunities, and wider school activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and behavioural incidents.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and well-being.
  • Supervise and support students during school trips, extracurricular activities, and other school events.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • A degree in a relevant science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or a related field.
  • Demonstrable strong subject knowledge across all three sciences at Key Stage 3 and at least two at Key Stage 4.
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver engaging and effective lessons.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping up-to-date with educational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a science-related field or education.
  • Experience teaching A-Level Science subjects (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
  • Experience with specific educational technologies or learning platforms.
  • Prior experience mentoring or supporting trainee teachers.
  • First Aid certification.
