Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Soil Sampling Assistant to join our field team in Wodonga. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about outdoor work, environmental science, and agriculture, with full training provided. You will play a crucial role in collecting essential soil data for various environmental and agricultural projects, contributing to important research and assessment. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fieldwork involving the collection of soil samples from various sites across the Wodonga region and surrounding areas.
- Operate and maintain field equipment, including GPS devices, soil probes, and hand tools, under supervision.
- Accurately record and document sample locations, site observations, and other relevant data.
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper labeling and handling procedures are followed.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during fieldwork.
- Assist senior scientists and technicians with various aspects of data collection and project support.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both in the field and at the office base.
Required Skills
- No prior experience in soil sampling or environmental science is required; full training will be provided.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and environments.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Good physical fitness, capable of lifting equipment and walking across uneven ground.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Valid Australian Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- An interest in environmental science, agriculture, geology, or related fields.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and reporting.
