Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly organised Casual Stage Manager to join our dynamic team for various upcoming theatre productions. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth execution of rehearsals and performances, maintaining a safe working environment, and supporting the creative vision of our directors. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, possess strong leadership skills, and thrive in a fast-paced live theatre setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with directors, designers, and production teams to understand and execute the artistic vision.
  • Manage and maintain production schedules, ensuring timely progress through rehearsals and performances.
  • Lead and supervise backstage crew, ensuring efficient and safe operations during all phases of production.
  • Set up rehearsal spaces and manage props, costumes, and set pieces as required.
  • Call cues for lighting, sound, and scene changes during performances with precision.
  • Act as the primary point of communication between the director and all production departments.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and implement emergency procedures if necessary.
  • Document and distribute rehearsal notes, blocking, and technical information to relevant personnel.

Required Skills

  • Proven organisational and time management abilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Basic understanding of theatrical lighting, sound, and stagecraft.
  • Ability to work flexible and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as dictated by production schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain calm and professional demeanour in high-stress situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Technical Theatre, Arts Management, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a Stage Manager or Assistant Stage Manager in a theatre setting.
  • Current First Aid certificate.
  • A valid Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) check (or willingness to obtain one).
