Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Stress Engineer to join our dynamic team in Banbury, Oxfordshire. In this hybrid role, you will be responsible for performing detailed stress analysis on complex engineering components and systems, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and compliance with industry standards. You will work across various projects, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of cutting-edge solutions for our diverse client base. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply advanced analytical techniques and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting static, dynamic, fatigue, and fracture mechanics analysis using analytical methods and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Developing and reviewing comprehensive stress analysis reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
- Collaborating closely with design engineers to optimize component geometry, material selection, and structural performance for strength and weight.
- Ensuring all designs meet specified load conditions, required safety factors, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Supporting physical test programs by providing analysis predictions and accurately interpreting test results.
- Contributing to the continuous development of new analytical tools, methodologies, and best practices within the team.
- Mentoring junior engineers and actively sharing technical expertise and knowledge across the engineering department.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in performing detailed stress analysis for complex engineering structures.
- Proficiency in industry-standard Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software (e.g., ABAQUS, ANSYS, NASTRAN).
- Strong foundational understanding of mechanical engineering principles, material science, and structural mechanics.
- Demonstrable ability to perform robust hand calculations to validate FEA results and confirm design integrity.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for model preparation and review.
- Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Achieved Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it.
- Experience in specific industry sectors such as aerospace, automotive, nuclear, or rail.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for post-processing and automation of analysis tasks.
- Prior project management experience or demonstrated leadership in lead analyst roles.
