Job Description
Latrobe Regional Hospital is offering a unique opportunity for enthusiastic medical students to gain invaluable hands-on experience through our Student Medical Intern program, specifically within the fast-paced Emergency Medicine Department. This rotation is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to acute care, diagnostic processes, and patient management in a supervised setting. Interns will work alongside experienced emergency physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals, learning directly from real-world medical challenges and contributing to our mission of excellence in patient care. This is an entry-level position focused on training and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe and assist medical staff in the assessment and treatment of emergency patients.
- Participate in daily ward rounds and departmental meetings.
- Learn to take patient histories, perform basic physical examinations, and document findings under direct supervision.
- Assist with minor procedures, wound care, and basic life support as guided by senior medical staff.
- Engage in educational activities, case discussions, and simulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited medical degree program.
- Strong academic foundation in medical sciences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of empathy and professionalism.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to dynamic environments.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient care and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed at least three years of a medical degree program.
- Previous experience in a healthcare volunteer role or clinical observation.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
