Job Description
Are you passionate about food, eager to learn a skilled trade, and looking for an entry point into the culinary world? Okanagan Hearth Bakery is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Artisan Baker / Pastry Prep to join our vibrant team in Vernon, BC. This is an incredible ‘learn on the job’ opportunity for individuals with little to no prior baking experience. We will provide comprehensive training in all aspects of artisan bread making, pastry preparation, and kitchen operations. Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced bakers and pastry chefs in daily production tasks.
- Learn and execute various dough mixing, shaping, and proofing techniques for artisan breads.
- Prepare ingredients and assist in the creation of a wide range of pastries, cakes, and cookies.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring adherence to strict food safety and hygiene standards.
- Monitor baking processes and product quality under supervision.
- Package and label finished products for display and sale.
- Participate in inventory management and ingredient stocking.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- No prior professional baking or culinary experience required (full training provided).
- Eagerness to learn and a strong passion for baking and food preparation.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and safety (willingness to learn more).
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights (up to 25 lbs).
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some experience in a customer service or retail environment.
- Basic knife skills or willingness to learn quickly.
