Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Tree Auditor to join our Urban Forestry team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive audits of the city’s urban tree population. Your expertise will directly contribute to the health, safety, and longevity of Salisbury’s trees, informing maintenance schedules, risk assessments, and strategic planting initiatives. This position involves significant fieldwork, requiring strong observational skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to best practices in arboriculture and urban forest management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular, systematic audits of street trees, park trees, and other council-managed vegetation.
  • Identify and assess tree health, structural integrity, pest and disease issues, and potential hazards.
  • Record audit findings accurately using digital mapping and database systems.
  • Provide recommendations for tree maintenance, removal, or planting based on audit outcomes.
  • Assist in the development and review of urban forest management plans and policies.
  • Respond to community inquiries and concerns regarding public trees.
  • Collaborate with other council departments, contractors, and community groups.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant arboricultural standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in arboriculture or urban forestry, specifically in tree assessment and auditing.
  • Strong knowledge of tree species common to South Australia, their characteristics, and potential issues.
  • Familiarity with tree pathology, pest identification, and treatment options.
  • Proficiency in using GIS software and handheld devices for data collection.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions.
  • Current Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Arboriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • ISA Certified Arborist or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with tree risk assessment methodologies (e.g., QTRA, TRAQ).
  • Knowledge of local government operations and urban planning principles.
