Job Description

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice is seeking a dedicated and empathetic individual for an Entry Level Victim Advocate position in Saskatoon. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide information to victims regarding their rights, the criminal justice process, and available community resources.
  • Offer emotional support and empathy to victims of various crimes.
  • Assist victims with safety planning and access to emergency services.
  • Connect victims with appropriate social services, counseling, and legal aid.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of victim interactions and services provided.
  • Work collaboratively with law enforcement, Crown prosecutors, and other community partners.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to victim advocacy and support services.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong sense of empathy, compassion, and non-judgmental approach.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • A genuine desire to help and support individuals experiencing trauma.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in social sciences, criminology, psychology, or a related field (e.g., Diploma, Bachelor's Degree).
  • Volunteer experience in a helping profession, crisis line, or community support setting.
  • Knowledge of the Saskatchewan criminal justice system and local community resources.
  • Ability to communicate in French or other additional languages relevant to the local community.
