Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and professional Customer Service Representative to join our Water Department team. In this vital role, you will be the primary point of contact for Aurora residents regarding their water services. This position involves assisting customers with billing inquiries, service requests, payment processing, and providing accurate information about city water policies and procedures. You will work within a supportive local authority environment, contributing directly to the well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, and in-person regarding water utility bills, services, and policies.
  • Process payments, establish new accounts, and assist with account transfers or closures.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints and billing discrepancies efficiently and courteously.
  • Schedule service appointments for water meter readings, repairs, or new installations.
  • Maintain accurate customer records and service request logs using designated software systems.
  • Provide information on water conservation programs and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with other department staff to ensure seamless customer service delivery.
  • Prepare and process various reports related to customer accounts and service activities.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in customer service or a related public-facing role
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle difficult customers with professionalism and empathy
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Experience working in a municipal, utility, or government setting
  • Familiarity with utility billing software or CRM systems
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish)
