Job Description
Are you looking for a hands-on, active role that gets you outdoors and contributing to your local community? Green Shoots Farm Co-op is seeking an enthusiastic Urban Farm Harvest Assistant to join our dedicated team. This is an entry-level position where no prior farming experience is required; we provide comprehensive on-the-job training. You’ll be an integral part of our daily operations, ensuring our crops are harvested with care and ready for distribution. This role involves physical outdoor work in various weather conditions, with the benefit of early finishes, allowing you to enjoy your afternoons. Key Responsibilities
- Execute daily harvesting tasks for a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs according to quality standards.
- Assist with planting, weeding, watering, and general farm maintenance.
- Monitor crop health and report any issues to the farm manager.
- Prepare harvested produce for washing, sorting, and packaging.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of farming tools and work areas.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions (sun, rain, cold).
- Strong work ethic and reliability, especially with early morning starts.
- Punctuality and commitment to daily attendance.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality produce.
Preferred Qualifications
- A genuine interest in sustainable agriculture, urban farming, or local food systems.
- Basic understanding of gardening or plant care.
- Prior experience in a physically demanding outdoor role (e.g., landscaping, construction) is a plus, but not required.
- Full UK driving license (desirable, but not essential for this role).
