Job Description
Join the City of Waukegan as a Parking Enforcement Officer and play a vital role in maintaining order and safety within our vibrant community. Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas on foot or in a vehicle to identify parking violations.
- Issue citations for violations such as expired meters, illegal parking, and time limit infractions.
- Educate the public on parking regulations in a courteous and professional manner.
- Operate handheld electronic devices for issuing citations and managing records.
- Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding parking issues.
- Maintain accurate records of violations and actions taken.
- Assist with traffic control during special events or emergencies when required.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning parking meters and signs.
- Appear in court to provide testimony regarding parking citations when necessary.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply complex regulations.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for public interaction.
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
- Physical ability to walk and stand for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Basic computer literacy and comfort with handheld devices (training provided).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a customer service or public-facing role.
- Knowledge of Waukegan city ordinances and geographical layout.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish).
