Job Description
GHD is excited to offer an Engineering Student Placement in Infrastructure Design at our Cairns office. This incredible opportunity is designed for university students looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in civil infrastructure projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to real-world projects from concept through to detailed design. This placement will provide valuable insight into the engineering consulting industry, focusing on areas such as road design, stormwater management, and land development. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals eager to learn and grow their foundational engineering knowledge in a supportive and dynamic environment. Full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers with data collection, analysis, and basic design tasks.
- Contribute to the preparation of drawings, reports, and technical documentation.
- Learn and apply industry-standard software for infrastructure design (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Participate in site visits and project meetings to understand project lifecycle.
- Support project teams with administrative and technical tasks as required.
- Adhere to safety regulations and company policies.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) is a plus but not essential.
- An interest in sustainable infrastructure design.

- Completion of at least two years of an engineering degree.
