Job Description
Join the City of Greater Geelong as a Part-Time School Crossing Supervisor and play a vital role in ensuring the safety of our children. This rewarding community position involves supervising school crossings during peak times, guiding pedestrians safely across the road, and contributing directly to the well-being of our community’s youngest members. No prior experience is necessary, as comprehensive training will be provided to successful candidates. We are looking for reliable, community-minded individuals who are passionate about making a difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise designated school crossings during specified peak school hours (morning and afternoon).
- Ensure the safe passage of school children and other pedestrians across the road.
- Operate stop signs clearly and effectively to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
- Maintain a high level of vigilance and awareness of traffic conditions.
- Educate children and the public on safe road crossing practices.
- Report any incidents, accidents, or concerns to the appropriate City of Greater Geelong personnel.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety procedures.
- Represent the City of Greater Geelong in a professional and friendly manner.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and the public.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work independently and follow established safety protocols.
- A keen awareness of road safety and traffic management.
- Physical fitness to stand for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- A current Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain one upon offer of employment).
- Ability to complete mandatory training and adhere to safety guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a community-facing role.
- Familiarity with local Geelong schools and road networks.
- Basic first aid knowledge or certification.
