You will play a crucial part in ensuring fair commerce and consumer protection throughout Durham County.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in a structured training program covering weights and measures laws, regulations, and inspection procedures.
- Accompany experienced inspectors on field visits to observe and learn inspection techniques for various commercial devices (e.g., scales, gas pumps, meters).
- Assist in verifying the accuracy of commercial weighing and measuring devices used in retail establishments, fuel stations, and other businesses.
- Learn to identify and document violations of weights and measures regulations under supervision.
- Develop skills in preparing clear and concise inspection reports and maintaining accurate records.
- Communicate effectively with business owners and the public regarding compliance standards and regulations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and departmental policies.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license and a good driving record.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn and apply technical information and regulations.
- Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, bend, and work in various environmental conditions.
- Commitment to public service and ethical conduct.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a related technical field or science discipline.
- Experience in a customer service or public-facing role.
- Familiarity with local government operations.
