Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable Public Service General Hands to join our dedicated team at Gladstone Regional Council. This is an ‘All Levels’ recruitment, meaning we welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those with no prior experience who are keen to learn and contribute to their community. You will play a vital role in maintaining public areas, supporting operational teams, and assisting with various civic projects. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop new skills, and become an integral part of our local public services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of public parks, gardens, and recreational areas.
- Perform general labouring duties including lifting, carrying, digging, and cleaning.
- Operate basic hand tools and power tools under supervision (training provided where necessary).
- Support skilled tradespersons and operational staff in various projects, such as roadworks, plumbing, or facility maintenance.
- Conduct routine inspections and report any maintenance issues or hazards.
- Adhere strictly to all workplace health and safety procedures and guidelines.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
- Assist with waste management and recycling initiatives as required.
Required Skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and adapt.
- Basic understanding of safety procedures or a willingness to learn and adhere to them.
- Physical fitness to perform manual labour tasks.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar general hand or labouring role (not essential for entry-level applicants).
- Current 'C' class driver’s license (or willingness to obtain one).
- White Card (Construction Induction Card) or willingness to obtain one.
- Basic knowledge of local government operations or community services.
