Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drone) Intern to join our surveying team in Llanelli. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to gain practical experience in the rapidly evolving field of drone technology for geospatial data collection. As an intern, you will receive comprehensive training and mentorship, learning the fundamentals of drone operation, data acquisition for surveying purposes, and basic data processing techniques. You will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to real-world projects and developing valuable skills that are highly sought after in the industry. No prior drone experience is required; we are looking for someone eager to learn and grow with us.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced drone operators and surveyors with pre-flight planning and site reconnaissance.
- Learn to operate various types of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) safely and effectively under supervision.
- Support in the collection of high-accuracy geospatial data using drone technology for diverse surveying projects.
- Aid in the post-processing of drone-acquired data, including photogrammetry and LiDAR datasets.
- Maintain and organize drone equipment, ensuring all gear is in optimal working condition.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines related to UAS operations.
- Document fieldwork, data collection parameters, and site conditions accurately.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
- Undertake assigned learning modules and training sessions to develop expertise.
Required Skills
- A strong interest in technology, drones, and geographical information systems (GIS).
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A valid UK driver's license, as travel to various project sites may be required.
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a program related to surveying, geography, environmental science, engineering, or a similar technical field.
- Familiarity with basic mapping concepts or an understanding of spatial data.
