Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Marine Surveyor / Inspector to join our dynamic team in the Haverfordwest region. This critical role involves conducting a variety of surveys and inspections on vessels, marine installations, and equipment to ensure compliance with international regulations, classification rules, and client specifications. You will be responsible for assessing seaworthiness, structural integrity, machinery condition, and safety systems, providing expert technical advice and generating detailed reports. Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive surveys and inspections of marine vessels, offshore units, and associated equipment.
- Assess compliance with classification rules, statutory regulations, and client specific requirements.
- Conduct damage surveys, on-hire/off-hire surveys, and condition surveys.
- Witness tests and trials of marine machinery and systems.
- Provide expert technical advice to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare accurate, clear, and timely survey reports and documentation.
- Liaise effectively with ship owners, operators, port authorities, and regulatory bodies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and technological advancements.
- Travel locally and occasionally regionally to various sites and vessels as required.
Required Skills
- Strong technical background in marine engineering, naval architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a marine surveyor, inspector, or in a similar sea-going technical role.
- Thorough understanding of IMO conventions, Class Rules (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS), and other relevant marine regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in generating detailed technical reports.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driving license and willingness to travel.
- Right to work in the UK.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class 1 / Class 2 Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer or Deck Officer).
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related discipline.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., IMarEST, RINA).
- Experience with various vessel types and offshore structures.
- Familiarity with Lloyd's Register rules and procedures.
