Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Phlebotomist to join our dynamic laboratory team in Aurora, IL. This critical role involves expertly collecting blood samples from patients of all ages, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and maintaining the integrity of specimens for accurate diagnostic testing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in phlebotomy techniques, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to meticulous documentation. Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages (infants, children, adults, geriatrics) with precision and care.
- Verify patient identity and ensure correct labeling of all collected specimens according to established protocols.
- Educate patients on the phlebotomy procedure to alleviate anxiety and ensure cooperation.
- Maintain specimen integrity by following proper collection, handling, and storage procedures.
- Adhere to strict safety guidelines, including universal precautions and infection control policies.
- Accurately document all collection information, including patient demographics, tests ordered, and any issues encountered.
- Prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory, including centrifugation and aliquoting as needed.
- Monitor and maintain phlebotomy supplies, ensuring availability and proper storage.
- Assist with basic laboratory duties as required, under the supervision of laboratory personnel.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, their families, and healthcare providers.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of professional phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting (hospital, clinic, or lab).
- Current Phlebotomy Technician certification (e.g., PBT(ASCP), CPT(NHA)).
- Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques for diverse patient populations.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology relevant to phlebotomy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to follow strict safety protocols and maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Eligibility for visa sponsorship in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a related scientific field.
- Experience with various laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Previous experience in a large hospital system.
