Job Description

Embark on a rewarding career as a Trainee Postal Fleet Mechanic with the United States Postal Service. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all aspects of the apprenticeship training program, both classroom and on-the-job.
  • Learn and perform routine preventative maintenance tasks on postal vehicles under direct supervision.
  • Assist senior mechanics with vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs of various mechanical systems (engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical, etc.).
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Document maintenance and repair activities accurately.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of automotive systems and repair procedures specific to the USPS fleet.
  • Operate shop equipment and tools safely and effectively after proper training.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid state driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Willingness to learn and a strong aptitude for mechanical concepts.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
  • Previous coursework or vocational training in automotive technology is a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated interest in automotive mechanics or similar technical fields.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
