Job Description

Join Alberta Health Services as a Trainee Occupational Therapy Aide and embark on a rewarding career in public healthcare. You will work under the direct supervision of licensed Occupational Therapists, assisting in the delivery of patient care and supporting therapeutic interventions. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Occupational Therapists in implementing treatment plans and therapeutic activities for patients.
  • Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and materials as directed.
  • Provide one-on-one support and encouragement to patients during therapy sessions.
  • Observe and report on patient progress, challenges, and responses to therapy to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
  • Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and activities of daily living as needed.
  • Document patient interactions and observations accurately.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, privacy regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and commitment to professional development.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Physical ability to assist with patient transfers and mobility, as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare or community setting.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology (an asset, but not required).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or First Aid.
