Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Scrap Sorter to join our heavy industrial operations in Bendigo. This is an entry-level opportunity where full training will be provided to the right candidate. You will play a crucial role in our recycling process, ensuring efficient and accurate sorting of various types of scrap metal and materials. This position requires adherence to strict safety protocols and the ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually sort and separate various types of scrap metal (e.g., ferrous, non-ferrous) and other recyclable materials.
- Identify and remove contaminants from scrap piles.
- Operate basic hand tools and equipment safely.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of materials as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all housekeeping standards.
- Strictly follow all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve daily production targets.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions promptly to supervision.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift and move heavy objects repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate material identification and sorting.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new processes and procedures.
- Basic understanding of English for safety instructions and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a heavy industrial, warehouse, or manufacturing environment (even if entry-level, any exposure is a plus).
- Current Forklift Operator's License (LF Class).
- Experience with basic hand tools.
