Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Civil Engineering Assistant to join our dedicated team within the Gladstone Regional Council. This entry-level position is ideal for recent graduates or individuals with foundational knowledge in civil engineering who are eager to kick-start their career in a supportive local government environment. You will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering department across various infrastructure projects, gaining hands-on experience in planning, design, construction, and maintenance. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Civil Engineers with the design, documentation, and project management of various infrastructure projects, including roads, drainage, water, and wastewater systems.
  • Conduct site investigations, surveys, and data collection to support engineering assessments and project planning.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings, plans, and reports using CAD software and other relevant tools.
  • Support the preparation of tender documents, contract administration, and project cost estimations.
  • Monitor project progress, assist with quality control, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and specifications.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external contractors, and community stakeholders as required.
  • Maintain accurate project records, databases, and documentation.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and safety procedures on project sites.

Required Skills

  • Foundational understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Basic knowledge or willingness to learn CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Civil Construction, or a related field.
  • Previous practical experience through internships, work placements, or volunteer roles in an engineering or construction environment.
  • Familiarity with local government processes and relevant Australian standards.
