Job Description
We are seeking highly motivated and resilient individuals to join our team as Fire Communications Officers. This is an immediate hire, critical response role based in our Wagga Wagga operations centre. You will be the crucial link between emergency incidents, field crews, and other agencies, ensuring the rapid and efficient deployment of resources during critical fire events. This role demands exceptional communication skills, the ability to perform under pressure, and a commitment to public safety. Full training on our specific systems and protocols will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency calls and requests for assistance from various sources, including 000 (triple zero) and internal channels.
- Accurately record incident details, resource requests, and operational updates into incident management systems.
- Dispatch fire fighting units and other emergency resources efficiently based on incident priority and availability.
- Maintain continuous radio communication with field personnel, providing vital information and support.
- Monitor multiple communication channels, including radio, phone, and data systems, for emerging incidents and operational changes.
- Liaise effectively with other emergency services (e.g., NSW Fire and Rescue, Police, Ambulance) and support agencies.
- Provide clear and concise updates to incident commanders and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in data entry and basic computer applications.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Strong geographical knowledge or ability to quickly interpret maps and mapping systems.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a call centre, dispatch, or emergency services environment.
- Familiarity with incident management systems or radio communication protocols.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
