Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cattle Yard Assistant to join our team in Gosford, NSW. This full-time, on-site role is perfect for an individual with a strong passion for livestock and a commitment to animal welfare. As a Cattle Yard Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the efficient and humane management of our cattle, contributing to the smooth day-to-day operations of the yard. This position requires physical fitness, reliability, and a proactive approach to work. Key Responsibilities
- Daily feeding and watering of cattle in yards and holding pens.
- Assisting with the movement, drafting, and handling of livestock according to operational schedules.
- Monitoring animal health and welfare, promptly reporting any concerns or irregularities to management.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of cattle yards, pens, and equipment.
- Assisting with the loading and unloading of livestock transport vehicles.
- Performing general yard maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
- Accurate record-keeping of stock movements, treatments, and feed consumption.
- Operating farm machinery, such as tractors and quad bikes, safely and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience with livestock, particularly cattle, is essential (minimum 2 years).
- Ability to operate farm machinery, including tractors, quad bikes, or utility vehicles.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical fitness and endurance for demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of animal welfare principles and safe handling techniques.
- Excellent communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Australian driver's license (manual transmission preferred).
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with various stock handling equipment and technologies.
- Chemical handling certificate (e.g., ChemCert or equivalent).
- Basic mechanical aptitude for routine equipment maintenance.
