Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced City Recreation Center Supervisor to oversee operations at a key recreation center within the St. George district of Staten Island. This vital role involves managing daily activities, supervising staff, developing and implementing recreational programs, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all community members. The Supervisor acts as a direct link between the local council, the community, and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, championing local needs and promoting active participation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations and administration of a recreation center, including scheduling, facility maintenance, and supply management.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate a team of recreation staff, ensuring high standards of performance and customer service.
  • Develop, plan, and implement a diverse range of recreational and educational programs for all ages, catering to community interests.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, emergency procedures, and all departmental policies and regulations.
  • Engage with community members, local organizations, and the local council to assess needs, gather feedback, and promote center activities.
  • Handle participant registrations, fees, and record-keeping accurately.
  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Prepare reports on center usage, program participation, and operational metrics.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience in a recreational or community-based setting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage budgets, resources, and administrative tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of recreational programming principles and facility management.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working with diverse community populations.
  • Familiarity with recreation management software (e.g., RecTrac, ActiveNet).
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic) is a plus.
