Job Description

Embark on an exciting learning journey as a Civil Engineering Intern with Stantec. This role provides an invaluable opportunity for aspiring civil engineers to gain hands-on experience in site visits, project support, and fundamental project management principles. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to real-world projects and developing critical skills that will form the foundation of your engineering career. This internship is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering practices from concept to completion, with a particular focus on on-site observations and project coordination support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to various civil engineering projects (e.g., infrastructure, municipal, environmental) to observe progress, collect data, and document conditions.
  • Assist project managers and engineers with project planning, scheduling, and coordination tasks.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and other project documentation.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and data analysis under supervision.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
  • Help ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality standards on site.
  • Learn and apply relevant industry software and tools.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (academic projects, volunteer work) related to civil engineering or construction.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) or other engineering software.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Basic knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
