Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Council Water Meter Hand to join our Utility Services team in Cairns. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately reading water meters, identifying and reporting issues, and ensuring the efficient operation of our water infrastructure. This position requires someone who is physically fit, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently outdoors in various weather conditions. You will play a crucial part in the transparent and accurate billing processes for our community’s water consumption.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately read water meters across designated routes within the Cairns region.
- Record meter readings using handheld devices or manual methods.
- Identify and report faulty, damaged, or inaccessible meters.
- Detect and report potential water leaks, tampering, or other irregularities.
- Walk extensive routes and navigate diverse terrain (residential, commercial, rural).
- Interact professionally with residents and businesses when necessary.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Operate council vehicles safely and responsibly.
Required Skills
- Valid Australian Driver's License (Class C minimum).
- Ability to walk long distances and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a meter reading, field service, or similar outdoor role.
- Familiarity with handheld electronic devices for data collection.
- Knowledge of the Cairns region and local geography.
- White Card (General Construction Induction Training).
