Job Description

Expeditors International is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Customs Brokerage Intern to join our dynamic team in Shreveport. This entry-level internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of international trade and customs compliance. You will learn the intricacies of import and export regulations, documentation, and the critical role customs brokerage plays in global logistics. This position is designed for individuals with no prior experience in customs or freight forwarding, offering comprehensive training and mentorship to kickstart your career. You will support our experienced customs brokers and specialists, contributing to the efficient flow of goods across borders while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and processing of customs documentation for imports and exports.
  • Learn to classify goods using harmonized tariff schedules under the guidance of senior brokers.
  • Support the team in verifying the accuracy of invoices, packing lists, and other trade documents.
  • Research and stay updated on customs regulations, trade agreements, and compliance requirements.
  • Communicate with clients, carriers, and government agencies as needed, under supervision.
  • Assist with data entry and maintenance of customs brokerage records.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge of customs procedures.
  • Support ad-hoc projects related to customs compliance and operational efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in international trade, logistics, or supply chain management.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes and software.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field.
