Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Cyber Defense Analyst to join our Security Operations team in Karratha. In this on-site role, you will be instrumental in protecting Rio Tinto’s critical infrastructure and data against cyber-attacks. You will be responsible for monitoring security events, responding to incidents, and contributing to the overall enhancement of our cyber defense capabilities within a dynamic operational environment. This position offers an opportunity to work at the forefront of industrial cyber security, supporting vital resource operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor security alerts and events from various security tools (SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS) to detect potential threats.
  • Perform initial analysis and triage of security incidents, determining their scope, impact, and root cause.
  • Execute incident response procedures, including containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident analysis.
  • Collaborate with IT and operational technology (OT) teams to implement security controls and remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and maintain security documentation, including incident response playbooks, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
  • Participate in threat hunting activities to proactively identify advanced persistent threats (APTs) and sophisticated attacks.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest cyber security trends, threats, and technologies to continuously improve defense strategies.
  • Provide regular reports on security posture, incidents, and remediation efforts to management.
  • Contribute to security awareness training for employees.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in a Security Operations Center (SOC) or similar cyber defense role.
  • Strong understanding of common cyber attack techniques, incident response methodologies, and security frameworks.
  • Proficiency with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems (e.g., Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel).
  • Experience with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions and network intrusion detection systems.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and cloud security concepts.
  • Ability to analyze security logs and network traffic to identify malicious activity.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, CEH, or GCIH.
  • Experience with industrial control systems (ICS) or operational technology (OT) security.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability management processes and tools.
