Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Cyber Defense Analyst to join our Security Operations team in Karratha. In this on-site role, you will be instrumental in protecting Rio Tinto’s critical infrastructure and data against cyber-attacks. You will be responsible for monitoring security events, responding to incidents, and contributing to the overall enhancement of our cyber defense capabilities within a dynamic operational environment. This position offers an opportunity to work at the forefront of industrial cyber security, supporting vital resource operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor security alerts and events from various security tools (SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS) to detect potential threats.
- Perform initial analysis and triage of security incidents, determining their scope, impact, and root cause.
- Execute incident response procedures, including containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident analysis.
- Collaborate with IT and operational technology (OT) teams to implement security controls and remediate vulnerabilities.
- Develop and maintain security documentation, including incident response playbooks, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
- Participate in threat hunting activities to proactively identify advanced persistent threats (APTs) and sophisticated attacks.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest cyber security trends, threats, and technologies to continuously improve defense strategies.
- Provide regular reports on security posture, incidents, and remediation efforts to management.
- Contribute to security awareness training for employees.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in a Security Operations Center (SOC) or similar cyber defense role.
- Strong understanding of common cyber attack techniques, incident response methodologies, and security frameworks.
- Proficiency with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems (e.g., Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel).
- Experience with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions and network intrusion detection systems.
- Knowledge of network protocols, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and cloud security concepts.
- Ability to analyze security logs and network traffic to identify malicious activity.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, CEH, or GCIH.
- Experience with industrial control systems (ICS) or operational technology (OT) security.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and analysis.
- Knowledge of vulnerability management processes and tools.
