Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Dietary / Meal Prep Kitchen Assistant to join our food service team at Northwestern Medicine. This full-time, on-site role involves assisting with the preparation, assembly, and delivery of meals to patients and staff, ensuring high standards of hygiene and dietary compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Assist cooks and chefs with basic food preparation tasks (e.g., washing, peeling, chopping ingredients).
- Portion and plate meals according to dietary guidelines and patient orders.
- Assemble and deliver meal trays to patient rooms and dining areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and dining areas.
- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations and standards.
- Receive and properly store food deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotation.
- Operate basic kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support special dietary needs and allergen management under supervision.
Required Skills
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Basic understanding of kitchen operations and food safety (full training provided upon hire).
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
- Reliable and punctual attendance is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a food service environment (e.g., restaurant, cafeteria, healthcare) is a plus but not required.
- Food Handler's Certificate (or ability to obtain one upon hire).
