Job Description

We are seeking a warm, empathetic, and reliable Elderly Companion to join our Cairns team on a part-time day roster. In this vital role, you will provide essential companionship and support to seniors in their homes, helping them maintain their independence and enjoy a high quality of life. This is more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to form meaningful connections and bring joy to individuals in your local community. Your duties will include assisting with daily activities, light household tasks, social engagement, and personal care support, all while adhering to Blue Care’s high standards of compassionate service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide companionship and engage in meaningful conversations and activities.
  • Assist with light household duties such as tidying, meal preparation, and grocery shopping.
  • Support clients with personal care needs including dressing, grooming, and hygiene (where required and appropriate).
  • Accompany clients to appointments, social outings, or community activities.
  • Assist with medication reminders as per client care plan.
  • Monitor and report any changes in client's health or well-being to the care coordinator.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for clients.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting the elderly.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliability and strong time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team.
  • Current Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
  • Satisfactory background checks (National Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care or Home and Community Care).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Previous experience (formal or informal) in a caregiving or support role.
  • Ability to adapt to varying client needs and preferences.
