Job Description
Join Sentara Healthcare as an Epidemiologist to play a critical role in public health surveillance, outbreak investigation, and disease prevention strategies. This position involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting health data to identify trends, risk factors, and potential interventions to safeguard community health. The successful candidate will contribute to various public health initiatives, collaborating with clinical teams, local health departments, and research institutions to develop evidence-based recommendations and policies. We are looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional with a passion for public health and a commitment to improving population health outcomes within our service areas. This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site at our Norfolk, VA location.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct epidemiological investigations of communicable and non-communicable diseases, including outbreak detection and response.
- Collect, manage, and analyze health data from various sources using statistical software.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and scientific publications on epidemiological findings for diverse audiences.
- Develop and implement surveillance systems to monitor disease trends and health indicators.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, public health officials, and community stakeholders on health promotion and disease prevention programs.
- Provide expert consultation and technical assistance on epidemiological methods and data interpretation.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities related to public health threats.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Epidemiology or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in epidemiology, public health surveillance, or disease investigation.
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, Stata) and database management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex data clearly.
- Knowledge of public health principles, infectious disease epidemiology, and biostatistics.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Dr.P.H.) in Epidemiology.
- Experience with GIS software for spatial data analysis.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) data and large healthcare datasets.
- Certification in Public Health (CPH).
- Experience in a healthcare system or hospital setting.
