Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and resilient Fire Communications Officer to join our critical response team in Werribee. This immediate hire position is vital for coordinating emergency responses, dispatching resources, and providing crucial information during incidents across Victoria. As a Fire Communications Officer, you will operate in a dynamic, high-pressure environment, serving as the primary link between emergency callers and our frontline responders. Your ability to maintain composure, communicate clearly, and make quick, accurate decisions under pressure is paramount. Full training on our specific systems and protocols will be provided, but prior experience in a fast-paced communications or emergency services environment is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize incoming emergency calls from the public and other agencies.
- Accurately record incident details and dispatch appropriate fire and emergency resources.
- Monitor active incidents, track resource movements, and provide updates to responding crews.
- Communicate effectively with incident commanders, partner agencies, and internal departments.
- Maintain precise logs and records of all communications and incidents.
- Operate complex radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Provide calm, clear, and reassuring assistance to callers in distress.
- Adhere to all operational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Victoria, or the ability to quickly learn.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
- Exceptional active listening skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliability and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in emergency services dispatch (police, ambulance, fire) or a similar critical communications role.
- Cert III or IV in Public Safety (Communications Centre Operations).
- Experience with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Familiarity with emergency management protocols and incident command systems.
