Job Description
Are you passionate about the world of scent and eager to gain hands-on experience in product development? Unilever is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a Fragrance & Olfactory Intern to join our innovative Product Development team in Guildford. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic individual looking to kickstart their career in the consumer goods industry, specifically within the fascinating realm of fragrance and sensory science. You will contribute to the development of new products, learn about the end-to-end product lifecycle, and support our experts in bringing captivating scents to life for our diverse brand portfolio. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an ideal entry-level position.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior perfumers and product developers in the creation and evaluation of new fragrance compounds.
- Prepare, label, and organize fragrance samples for internal and external testing.
- Conduct initial sensory evaluations of fragrance prototypes and provide accurate feedback.
- Support laboratory operations, including maintaining inventory, cleaning equipment, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Help with data collection, entry, and basic analysis related to fragrance performance and consumer insights.
- Research market trends, competitor products, and emerging technologies in the fragrance industry.
- Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project reviews, contributing ideas and learning from experienced professionals.
- Document experiments, results, and observations meticulously.
Required Skills
- Strong passion and interest in fragrances, scents, and sensory experiences.
- Basic understanding of scientific principles, particularly chemistry (from academic coursework or personal interest).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Perfumery, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting (academic or professional) is a plus, but not essential.
- Familiarity with consumer product development processes.
