Job Description

Are you passionate about gardening, even if you’re just starting out? St Bridget Nurseries is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Garden Centre Assistant to join our friendly team. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to learn about horticulture and provide excellent customer service. You will be instrumental in maintaining the beauty of our plant displays, assisting customers with their gardening needs, and ensuring our centre remains a pleasant place to visit. Full training will be provided, so no prior experience in a garden centre is necessary – just a keen interest in plants and a willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with plant selection, product information, and gardening advice.
  • Maintain the health and appearance of plants, including watering, pruning, and repotting.
  • Replenish stock, ensure displays are attractive and well-organised.
  • Operate the till and handle transactions accurately.
  • Assist with unloading deliveries and moving stock around the centre.
  • Keep the garden centre tidy, clean, and safe for customers and colleagues.
  • Contribute to a positive and welcoming environment for all visitors.

Required Skills

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • A strong interest in plants and gardening (no prior expert knowledge required).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness, able to lift and move heavy items, and stand for extended periods.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Reliability and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a retail or customer-facing role.
  • Basic knowledge of plant care or horticulture.
  • Valid driving license.
