Job Description

Collins Aerospace is seeking a skilled and dedicated Hardware Engineer to join our innovative team in Wolverhampton. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge hardware solutions for critical aerospace and defense systems. As a Hardware Engineer, you will work within a dynamic engineering environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring complex hardware designs from concept to production. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complex electronic hardware, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection.
  • Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and validation of hardware prototypes and production units.
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of hardware components.
  • Generate and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test plans, and assembly instructions.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for hardware failures.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company quality processes.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in hardware engineering.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in hardware design and development.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Eagle, KiCad).
  • Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with various communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).
  • Hands-on experience with hardware testing and debugging using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in the aerospace, defense, or automotive industries.
  • Familiarity with DO-160, DO-254, or other relevant industry standards.
  • Experience with FPGA design and VHDL/Verilog.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC design principles and testing.
  • Project leadership experience.
