Job Description
Cadwell Laboratories is seeking a motivated and analytical Industrial Engineering Intern with a focus on Lean Manufacturing principles to join our operations team in Richland, WA. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world manufacturing environment, contributing to projects aimed at improving efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing production workflows. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and production staff, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic medical device manufacturing setting. This is an excellent opportunity for students eager to develop practical skills in process improvement and lean methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in identifying process inefficiencies and bottlenecks within manufacturing lines.
- Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing tools such as 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and Standard Work.
- Collect and analyze data related to production cycles, resource utilization, and operational costs.
- Contribute to the development and documentation of improved processes and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to the team.
- Conduct time studies and motion analyses to optimize workstation layouts and workflow.
Required Skills
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn and apply new concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior coursework or projects related to process improvement, operations research, or supply chain.
- Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., Minitab, R, Python) or simulation tools.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, even if academic or volunteer.
