Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and eager to contribute to their well-being? PetSmart in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a dedicated Kennel Assistant who genuinely loves working with dogs. This entry-level position offers a fantastic opportunity to start your career in pet care, providing direct support for the daily needs of our canine guests. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and positive environment for all animals under our care, ensuring they receive the attention, exercise, and comfort they deserve. Full training will be provided to the right candidate who demonstrates enthusiasm and a strong work ethic.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for dogs, including feeding, watering, and administering medications as directed.
- Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of kennels, common areas, and outdoor play yards.
- Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns or changes to supervisors.
- Exercise and socialize dogs safely and responsibly.
- Assist with check-ins and check-outs of pets, interacting professionally with pet parents.
- Perform light grooming tasks such as brushing and bathing when required.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication, and daily activities.
- Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are strictly followed.
Required Skills
- Genuine love for animals, especially dogs.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong observational skills for monitoring animal health and behavior.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with colleagues and pet parents.
- Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous volunteer or paid experience working with animals (e.g., shelters, pet sitting, dog walking) is a plus but not required.
- Basic knowledge of dog behavior and training principles.
- Certification in pet first aid and CPR is a bonus.
