Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Paint Abatement Tech to join our specialized team in Warrnambool. As a Lead Paint Abatement Tech – Specialised, you will play a crucial role in identifying, containing, and safely removing lead-based paint from residential, commercial, and industrial properties. This position requires a thorough understanding of abatement techniques, strict adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work independently and as part of a dedicated crew. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough site inspections to identify lead-based paint hazards.
- Develop and implement lead abatement plans in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Prepare work areas, including erecting containment barriers and setting up negative pressure systems.
- Safely remove lead-based paint using various methods such as encapsulation, enclosure, removal, and replacement.
- Properly handle, package, and dispose of hazardous waste materials.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment, including respirators, air monitors, and hand tools.
- Perform post-abatement cleaning and site restoration.
- Maintain accurate records of all abatement activities, including air monitoring results and waste manifests.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Train and mentor junior technicians on best practices and safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and team members.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience in lead paint abatement or hazardous material remediation.
- Current Lead Abatement Supervisor/Worker certification (or equivalent national certification).
- Proficiency in setting up and dismantling containment systems.
- Experience with various lead removal techniques.
- Strong understanding of relevant environmental regulations and safety standards (e.g., OH&S, EPA).
- Ability to operate specialized equipment safely and effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform demanding tasks in various environmental conditions.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training or certification in hazardous waste management.
- Experience with asbestos removal or other hazardous material remediation.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints or technical drawings.
- Trade qualification in painting, construction, or a related field.
