Job Description

Join AstraZeneca as a Microbiology Laboratory Intern within our Quality Control team. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring scientist to gain hands-on experience in a state-of-the-art microbiology laboratory. You will contribute to maintaining the highest standards of product quality and safety by supporting routine testing and laboratory operations. This role is designed for individuals with a keen interest in microbiology and a desire to learn about pharmaceutical quality control processes. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent entry point into the pharmaceutical industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of media, reagents, and samples for microbiological testing.
  • Perform routine environmental monitoring activities, including plate reading and data entry.
  • Support the Quality Control team in performing microbiological assays on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and laboratory safety regulations.
  • Assist with laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow precise instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Enthusiasm for learning and a proactive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field.
  • Previous experience (academic or extracurricular) with aseptic techniques or basic laboratory procedures.
  • Familiarity with GMP principles.
