Job Description
Are you passionate about cybersecurity and eager to kick-start your career in penetration testing? TELUS Communications Inc. is seeking a motivated and curious Penetration Testing (Ethical Hacking) Intern to join our Cybersecurity team in Coquitlam. This is an unparalleled opportunity for individuals with foundational knowledge and a strong desire to learn. You will work alongside experienced ethical hackers and security professionals, gaining hands-on experience in identifying vulnerabilities, simulating attacks, and contributing to the security posture of a major telecommunications company. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an ideal role for someone with no direct pen testing experience but a keen interest in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior penetration testers in executing security assessments and vulnerability scans on various systems, applications, and networks.
- Learn to document findings, including identified vulnerabilities, their potential impact, and recommended remediation steps.
- Participate in research and development of new attack vectors, tools, and methodologies under guidance.
- Support the team in preparing comprehensive reports and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development activities, staying current with the latest cybersecurity threats and ethical hacking techniques.
- Collaborate with various internal teams to understand system architectures and security requirements.
- Contribute to a culture of security awareness and best practices within the organization.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, HTTP/S).
- Familiarity with operating systems, particularly Windows and Linux environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and security challenges.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree/diploma program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- Basic understanding of web application concepts and common vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
- Knowledge of basic security principles and concepts.
- Personal projects or self-study in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, or IT security.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+) are a plus, but not required.
