Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Craft Tutor to join our adult education team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging craft workshops and courses to students with varying levels of experience. This role requires a creative individual with strong practical skills in a range of craft disciplines, a commitment to high-quality teaching, and the ability to inspire and guide learners. You will help students develop new skills, nurture their creativity, and produce beautiful handmade items in a friendly and encouraging on-site learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective craft lessons and workshops to adult learners.
• Develop comprehensive curriculum materials, including lesson plans, handouts, and project examples.
• Demonstrate various craft techniques clearly and safely to individuals and groups.
• Provide constructive feedback and support to students, tailoring instruction to individual needs and abilities.
• Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods and materials as required.
• Manage classroom resources, materials, and equipment effectively, ensuring their proper use and maintenance.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organised learning environment at all times.
• Stay updated with new craft trends, materials, and teaching methodologies to keep courses fresh and relevant.
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning atmosphere for all students.

Required Skills

• Demonstrable expertise in at least two distinct craft disciplines (e.g., pottery, textiles, jewellery making, papercrafts, drawing/painting, mixed media).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of learners.
• Strong organizational and planning abilities, capable of managing course content and classroom logistics.
• Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for teaching and sharing craft knowledge.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a wider team.
• Basic IT literacy for record keeping, communication, and resource management.

Preferred Qualifications

• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PTLLS, AET, DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE).
• Previous experience teaching craft workshops or adult education classes in a formal or informal setting.
• A professional portfolio showcasing personal craft projects and achievements.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures and best practices in a workshop or classroom environment.
