Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Radiation Protection Advisor to join our expert team in Nottingham. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical projects within the nuclear and industrial sectors, ensuring the highest standards of radiation safety. You will provide specialist advice, develop radiation protection programs, and support operational teams in compliance with relevant regulations and best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on all aspects of radiation protection to clients and internal teams.
- Develop, implement, and review radiation protection programs and procedures.
- Conduct comprehensive radiation risk assessments and dose estimations.
- Advise on regulatory compliance with Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and other relevant national and international legislation.
- Support the design and implementation of As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) principles in project planning and execution.
- Perform site inspections, audits, and investigations related to radiation safety incidents or concerns.
- Deliver radiation protection training to site personnel and new team members.
- Liaise effectively with regulatory bodies such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency (EA) as required.
- Investigate and report on radiation incidents or near-misses, recommending corrective actions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Radiation Protection Advisor or in a similar specialist role.
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and associated UK legislation.
- A degree in Physics, Radiation Protection, Health Physics, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline.
- Strong understanding of fundamental radiological protection principles and practical application in diverse environments.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and ALARP demonstrations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Attainment of RPA2000 certification.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP).
- Direct experience in the nuclear industry, defence sector, or other high-hazard environments requiring stringent radiation protection.
- A postgraduate qualification in Radiation Protection or a related field.
- Experience with Monte Carlo or other radiation transport codes for shielding and dose assessment.
