Job Description
Are you passionate about public safety and looking to start a rewarding career? Powell River Municipal Services is seeking a motivated and eager individual to join our team as a Trainee Fire Inspector. This is an exceptional entry-level opportunity designed for someone with little to no prior experience, offering comprehensive training and mentorship to develop you into a skilled Fire Inspector. You will play a crucial role in ensuring fire safety compliance within our community, conducting inspections, and educating the public on fire prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program to learn about fire codes, regulations, and inspection procedures.
- Assist senior Fire Inspectors with routine inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
- Learn to identify potential fire hazards and non-compliant conditions.
- Observe and assist in the documentation of inspection findings and preparation of reports.
- Shadow experienced inspectors in conducting public education initiatives on fire safety.
- Develop an understanding of fire investigation techniques and procedures.
- Attend community events to promote fire prevention and safety awareness.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and clean driving record
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new information and procedures
- Demonstrated commitment to public safety and community service
- Basic computer proficiency for report writing and record keeping
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Criminology, Public Safety, Engineering Technology)
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Volunteer experience in emergency services or community safety programs
- Basic knowledge of building construction or electrical systems
